Salinas' most famous resident is turning 3.

Salinas is celebrating national Library Week with three birthday parties for one of its most famous residents. No, not Steinbeck. At least not John.
It’s the birthday of Snappy, the fabulously popular tortoise that lives in Steinbeck Library. There will be cake, stories, and paper tortoise crafts to fete the city’s favorite pet. All parties are at 4 pm. On Tuesday at John Steinbeck Library, Wednesday at Cesar Chavez, and Thursday at El Gabilan. If you can’t make it to any of the events, visit Snappy here.
