Officials with the Monterey County Board of Education are planning to fill the vacant seat of Area 6 with a provisional appointment.
Byrl Smith, former trustee, resigned last month for health reasons.
The person appointed will serve until the current term expires in Nov. 2013.
Applicants must be registered to vote within Area 6, which encompasses Marina, Seaside, and Sand City.
Applications are due by 5 p.m. Oct. 19.
Candidates will be interviewed at a public meeting of Board of Education in early November.
